Beneficiaries

  1. Adult Learners, both young adults and seniors, to involve them in a process of rediscovery of the European Mineral Heritage, with a focus on its cultural, natural, anthropological endowment and potential.
  2. Communities, to help them rethink the value and potential hidden in the various cultural mining sites, through innovative reportage activities and virtuous case studies.

Locations

The process aims to unleash the untapped high cultural and natural potentials in a sample Post-Mining Areas and Sites, rich in terms of cultural, social and creative value: all sample areas belong to the borders of Europe, representing the area of interest and activity of the partnership: Sicily (Italy), Andalusia (Spain), Silesia (Poland).

Impact

  1. CULTURAL:
    • The ASTRA learning standard addressing the issues of and post-mining community development will attract not only communities and local adult learners but professional as well, along with certain public interest. The outcomes will be a welcomed contribution to one of Europe’s core political objectives, and it is expected demand for such training materials will be much be very much on the rise in the wake of the coronavirus socio-economic shock.
  2. EDUCATIVE:
    • ASTRA’s resources, focused on dissemination of the inner creative and cultural potential some of the valuable post-mining structures in three different EU regions, favor the work of educators and learners, involving them in activities of discovery of the forgotten post-mining cultural heritage. ASTRA will produce resources which deal with anthropology, creativity and education, but also technical tools: an introduction for the use, by educative means, of GIS resources to discover places and heritage from a different point of view.
  3. ECONOMIC:
    • ASTRA aims to produce a potentially universally-applicable revitalisation standard of post-mining heritage, bringing along social, technological and economic change, through a rediscovery of what used to be life-giving, a source of livelihood to families, causing industrial development of cities and regions. ASTRA addresses NEETs as well, providing examples and models of cultural entrepreneurship and self-entrepreneurship, useful not only to preserve the well-being of brown-field areas, but also employability.

Costs

  1. ASTRA addresses NEETs by cultural and creative means: the partnership believes that coherent actions focused on the revitalization of local cultural heritage can mitigate negative phenomena such as low demographics, low natality, emigration, job loss.
  2. Several virtuous case studies will underline how local cultural heritage can contrast inactivity and decay, producing sustainable, future-proof employability and new opportunities for Youth, Seniors and wider communities.

Sustainability

  • ASTRA’s innovative training and educative methods will integrate two fields of competences: advance knowledge, Digital and Intensive System, and Humanities, especially aimed at cultural and creative entrepreneurship. ASTRA’s resource will be adapted by all age groups via upward skilling routes, using different methods and languages: case studies, start-up mentoring and role models, non formal, informal and outdoor education. The tools provided by the partnership will be based upon cultural, economic and environmental sustainability.
